WELCOME
TO NUTHINBUTT AUSSIES
We
have been involved with the Australian Shepherd breed
(Aussies) since 2005.
It all started when we went to a local
show for an outing and saw the breed for the first time.
We were originally looking to purchase a Border Collie but instead fell
in love with the Australian
Shepherd, and it was from here our quest began to find an Aussie to love
as a part of our family.
To the untrained eye, Aussies most closely
resemble Border Collies, but they are slightly larger and
have a wider range of coat colours. Bred as a working dog, Australian
Shepherds are highly active, intelligent, alert and eager, with strong
herding and guarding instincts.
Their medium-length coats come in four
colours — black, blue merle (marbling of grey and black),
red (ranging from a light cinnamon to liver), and red merle (marbling
of red and silver or buff).
Aussies’ eyes can also vary greatly
in colour. They can be green, hazel, amber, brown or blue;
they may even have two different-coloured eyes, or even more strangely,
can have bicoloured
or ‘split’ eyes, where each eye can be of two colours. Up
to 25% of the nose may be unpigmented.
People had said to me that owning an Aussie
was like an addiction and I use to shrug and laugh...
5 years later, we now house 4 Australian
Shepherds as well as our Border Collie, Bailey.
We
have successfully shown and titled two Australian Shepherds in this short
space and have been fortunate enough to be entrusted with outstanding
quality dogs from our great friends within the breed.
We have had great success producing our
own progeny of beautiful puppies and hope that
we will continue our success and friendships along the way.
